Biography

Julia Balakrishnan studies the High Middle Ages in Europe and the Levant with a particular interest in the contributions of marginalized groups to the wider medieval landscape. She is not a Crusade scholar per se, but Crusade adjacent. Her current research focuses on beguine involvement in the crusading effort and the establishment of the university, with a focus on the relationship between Marie d'Oignies and Jacques de Vitry. Before Brown, she got her BA and MA in medieval history at Queen's University, Kingston.
